How to Wash and Maintain Your Ceramic Coated Car in Dallas, TX

Investing in a premium ceramic coating is the best decision you can make to protect your vehicle’s paint, lock in an incredible mirror-like shine, and make maintenance a breeze.

But once your vehicle is coated, how do you keep it looking spotless?

While a professional ceramic coating—like our aviation-grade System X Ceramic Coating packages—is incredibly durable and chemically resistant, it still requires proper maintenance to ensure it performs at its best for years to come.

Here is our ultimate guide on how to wash and maintain your ceramic-coated vehicle in the intense Dallas-Fort Worth climate.

1. The Golden Rule: Avoid Automatic Tunnel Car Washes

If you remember only one thing from this guide, let it be this: stay away from automatic car washes with spinning brushes.

Even though a ceramic coating is highly scratch-resistant, the heavy-duty, nylon brushes used in automatic tunnel washes are loaded with abrasive dirt and grit from the hundreds of cars that went through before you. Running your coated car through one of these will quickly micro-scratch and swirl your pristine finish, dulling the hydrophobic properties of the coating.

  • The Safe Alternative: Always opt for a careful, touchless wash or a traditional hand wash.

2. Master the "Two-Bucket" Hand Wash Method

When hand washing your vehicle at home, always use the two-bucket method to prevent scratching:

  • Bucket 1 (Soap): Filled with clean water and a high-quality, pH-neutral ceramic-safe car shampoo. (Avoid "wash and wax" soaps, as the wax can leave a film over the coating, temporarily reducing its water-beading performance).

  • Bucket 2 (Rinse): Filled with plain water.

  • The Technique: Dunk your clean microfiber wash mitt into the soap bucket, wash a section of the car (working from top to bottom), and then thoroughly rinse the dirt off the mitt in the rinse bucket before picking up more soap.

3. Wash Your Car Out of Direct Texas Sunlight

The Dallas heat can quickly turn water and soap into stubborn water spots on your paint.

  • The Tip: Never wash your vehicle in direct sunlight or when the paint is hot to the touch. Wash your vehicle early in the morning, late in the evening, or under a garage or shaded carport.

  • Drying: Always use a premium, plush microfiber drying towel or a leaf blower to dry the vehicle immediately after washing. Never let your coated vehicle "air dry," as mineral-heavy Dallas tap water will leave spots.

4. Boost the Coating Every Few Months

To maintain maximum slickness and keep water aggressively beading off your paint, we recommend applying a ceramic maintenance spray or "booster" every 3 to 4 months. These sprays add a sacrificial layer of silica on top of your coating, protecting it and keeping that deep, wet gloss active.
